Design Guidelines and Requirements
The following Design Guidelines and Requirements (DGRs) provide a framework for design in a clear, easy to use format. The DGRs apply to the entire community and are organized by area and type of use. Section 1 – American Architectural Precedent applies to all areas and uses. Subsequent sections expand upon the base requirements.

Property Maintenance Code
Our Zoning Officer investigates property maintenance code complaints. Our goal is proactive enforcement through open communication in order to achieve compliance.

Sign Code
New Albany adopted a new sign code, effective January 6, 2011. The code is entirely new and is a graphically-oriented code. The primary objectives of the code rewrite were to: 1 – Provide upfront direction to applicants; 2 – Reduce the need for variances to obtain sign approval; 3 – Develop standards specific to the Village Center; and 4 – Expand signage options for businesses.

Urban Center Code
A new and innovative zoning code has been adopted for the Village Center area which will help enable urban redevelopment and establish more sustainable development patterns. The code is the result of several years of outreach with business owners, community members and developers.
