Register for Free 2013 Citizen Police Academy
New Albany Announces Fourth Citizen Police Academy
Classes held each Wednesday, from January 23 – March 13
The New Albany Police Department is now accepting applications for their fourth Citizen Police Academy class. This eight-week experience is free of charge to New Albany area residents 18 or older and will take place each Wednesday evening from January 23 – March 13, 2013, at the New Albany Police Department (50 Village Hall Road). Course time is 7-9 PM.
Citizen police academies are popular programs used by police departments to introduce to the community the values, philosophy, and operation of their local law enforcement agency. Participants will become familiar with law enforcement operations and gain a deeper understanding of the issues facing police officers today and the laws that govern officer conduct. Discussion topics include laws of arrest, search and seizure, traffic law enforcement, operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI), 9-1-1/emergency dispatch, crime scene investigation, and community policing efforts. Civilian ride-alongs are also part of the program.
While there is no charge to participate in this program, interested parties should expect to attend each week. Applications are due no later than Friday, January 11, 2013. For more information, call the New Albany Police Department at 855.1234.
